Friday, May 1, 2020 Announcements and Assignments

Friday, 5/1/20

Announcements

1) On Burlington English, I have now given registered students access to all four levels of the Burlington Core courses. If you find the Low Intermediate too difficult or if you want to go back and review the lower level lessons, you now have access to them.

2) For instance, you can review comparative and superlative adjectives in the High Beginners level, Lesson 4: Money Matters.

Assignments

1) Future English 3 Workbook, pp. 98-99, Ex. A, B, C, and D

We did p. 98, Ex. A and B, in class on Friday (today, 5/1/20), so please do this exercise on your own if you were not in the zoom meeting today. We will go over this work in class on Monday.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO SEND ME THIS ASSIGNMENT.

2) Future English 3 Textbook, p. 170-171

Read and study the Grammar section at the top of the page on using one or ones in place of nouns. Be sure to read the "Grammar Watch" box for specific point.

HOMEWORK: Do Ex. A and B on p. 170, and do Ex. A and B on p. 171.
Please send me your answers to these exercises by text or email.

3) Burlington English

Please continue to work in BE at your own pace. If you like, you may select a different level of the CORE course to work in (see the announcements above).

For the weekend, please go into the READERS section of the BE menu. Choose a story and read it over the weekend. There are three different reading levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced), and you may choose a story from any level. I will be able to check BE and see what you read, so that counts the same as sending me the assignment!

Next week, I will ask you to answer a few questions about the story you read, so expect to see those questions on Monday.

Announcements

1. In this morning's Zoom meeting, we went over the answers for the Unit 12 test. I have sent your graded tests back to you by either email or text message, depending on how you sent it to me. A copy of the answers to the test is also posted on this blog for you to check, under the "Homework Answers" heading.

2. The answers to Tuesday's homework from Unit 8 (FER3 Textbook, p. 159 and Workbook, p. 90) are also now posted under the "Homework Answers" heading. Please check your own answers, and let me know if you have any questions. We have done all we are going to do on Unit 8 at this point.

3. Today in the Zoom meeting we started on Unit 9, "On the Job" in the textbook.

Assignments due Friday, May 1, 2020

Future English 3 Textbook: Unit 9--"On the Job"

1. Please read pp. 165-167 and make sure you understand the nine phrases under "Job Skills." Try to match these phrases with one of the numbered pictures on pp. 166-167. You may come up with different answers. We will discuss the phrases and pictures in Friday's Zoom meeting.

2. On p. 168 there is a listening exercise. Since we can't listen to the conversation between Margo and Joseph on CD (as we normally do in class) please turn to p. 304 in the back of the textbook and read the dialogue for p. 168, Ex. A and B. Then answer the True/False questions in Ex. B on p. 168.

3. Also on p. 168, please study the four vocabulary terms in the yellow box (inventory, quantity, supplies, and vendor). We will discuss these terms in Friday's 10 a.m. Zoom meeting.

You do not have to send me your answers to the above homework. We will go over the answers in our online Zoom class on Friday morning at 10 a.m.
