1.  The location of the U.S. federal government is Washington, D.C.

2.  The United States fought the War of Independence and became independent from England.

3.   The U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force are run by the U.S. Department of Defense.

4.   Washington, D.C. will always remain the capital of the United States.

5.   When politicians don't agree, they try to compromise in order to pass laws.


Answers to three questions:

Send me your answers in a text message or email. Your answers won't be the same, and I want to see the sentences you write about your country's capital for #2 and #3.

Here are some possible answers to #1:
  1. What is a synonym (word that means about the same) for run as it is used in this sentence: The North and the South had very different ideas about how the government  should run.

The word run in this sentence has nothing to do with moving fast on foot. Here are some synonyms for run as it is used in the above sentence (you may have others):

               work                                   do its job
               operate                               carry out its work
               function                             administer things
               perform                              manage things
